AS final product -The Lucky Number

Editing Log

We have finally finished off our Media production, The Lucky Number. We exported the music onto the movie track in Imovie 08 and sorted various issues with the movie audio which previously could've ruined certain sequences.

We have also sorted out several sequences that were cut too quickly, making it seem faster pace which potentially could've broken the suspenseful atmosphere. The title sequences were added in, along with our Company logo "PreRendered Productions".

Music Composition for Video

To complete and round off a film opening, Ky has used the software 'GarageBand' to compose a piece of music that creates a tense atmosphere. It fits in with the conventions of Film Noir music pieces as it is composed with orchestral and jazz like influence throughout. The music often contains contrapuntal sequences that follow the example of several other Film Noir movies.

17/3/10 Editing Log

After the first day of editing, the shots we produced fit together without breaking certain rules of cineamatography although some shots need to be re-filmed. As it is film-noir, we have turned the contrast up and reduced the saturation of the clips down, to create a black and white, shadowed effect to the video to create the authentic feel of Film-Noir.

After looking back on the second shooting, we realised the lighting wasn't correct to portray the femme fatale as her lips are covered in shadow. So we have planned to re-shoot parts of the second scene with the correct lighting.

Film Log 11/3/10

Today we filmed the other end of the telephone conversation, the antagonist inquiring about how Ky 'took care' of his victim. We took multiple extreme close up shots of the dial phone, and of the antagonist pressing each button. We did this with the idea to create a parallel scene with Ky, climbing up the scaffolding and the unknown caller dialling Ky's telephone. We used different close ups of the unknown callers face to disguise her face and to create mystery and tension for the audience.

Film Log 10/3/09

Since our storyboard has been written, things have changed from the planned shots we were hoping to create as we were originally going to film inside of a small office sized interior, we were unable to as it is currently under renovation. We then settled on the location of the backstage area of our school. As it is low lighted, this furthers adds to the film noir atmosphere. It also contains different levels and gantries so we can create a multitude of shots. Overall, we believe this is a better location for the atmosphere of mystery we are trying to achieve.

Our group filmed the first section of the video, where the antagonist is climbing up to disclosed location through gantries and dark scenery. The desired shots we used were extreme long shots to create distance from the character which in turn creates a tension and mystery for the audience. We also used a variety of aerial shots to give the impression that the antagonist is being watched or spied on to create the atmosphere of that the antagonist is potentially running from something.
